So embarrassed…

Will America ever get it’s act together? It’s times like these that make for one to be very ashamed to identify as an American. I mean, what’s the hold up?

“The United States said on Wednesday it opposed setting firm targets for greenhouse gas cuts at a G8 summit but offered reassurance that its plan for fighting climate change would not undermine U.N. efforts.”

I’m not saying that the world is going to end tomorrow, but come on! Kyoto went into effect over two years ago and America has been the biggest holdout – yet we’re the biggest contributor to greenhouse gases.

“Summit host Merkel has been pushing for cuts of 50 percent in greenhouse gases by 2050 to curb a rise in temperatures that scientists say could cause more droughts, heatwaves, floods and rising seas.

But Washington said it was not ready to sign up to such fixed goals in Heiligendamm where Bush will meet leaders of Japan, Russia, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada.

“At this moment in time on that one particular issue we do not yet have agreement,” said James Connaughton, a senior White House adviser.

“Will we have agreement, the answer is yes, from the U.S. perspective we want agreement on that point, we want it within 18 months, so stay tuned,” he said.”

So were talking 43 years from now we have to cut greenhouse emissions by 50%, and American can’t “sign-on” and be a team player?

There’s just no excuse.

  1. As an American, I share your concern. People judge others (like it or not) by our elected representatives and so-called leaders. What ever happened to ‘I’m the Decider and I decide What’s Best‘?
