Las Vegas – 1st Post

OK, so we have been here since Sunday…what a fabulous city! I mean there is just so much to do here it isn’t even funny! You could probably spend weeks out here and still not see everything. The plane trip was pretty cool, I got to see the Rockies and the Grand Canyon for the first time (from the air of course). We are staying at the Venetian…below is the view of the mountains from our hotel room, a view entrance to the Venetian with the Mirage in the background and another view of the entrance to the Venetian with Treasure Island in the background.

We are staying in a Bella Suite with a view of the strip, which is really just a view of the construction of the Palazzo (or something like that) going on next door. I really do like the mountains out here though – they are so different than WNC mountains. What’s funny too, no one here seems to feel the need to build on these mountains like they do in Asheville. It appears as though Vegas exists in this massive valley surrounded by mountains that are so far untouched. I wish Asheville was like this.

The Grand Canal Shoppes here at The Venetian are just incredible. In fact, the whole hotel is just incredible. Our first day here (Sunday), we felt like we went everywhere and still hadn’t seen everything, yet we hadn’t even left the hotel!!! There is just so much to do packed into the resort property.

Yesterday we checked out New York, New York, MGM, the Bellagio, Bally’s, Paris, and the Aladdin. Today we were at Treasure Island and the Fashion Show Mall. That’s probably going to be the end of our hotel adventures, our feet have about had it (even though we took cabs to most of the hotels). Just walking around these massive hotels is a workout.

Tonight we are going to see Mystere at Treasure Island and will probably come back to the Venetian Casino and watch whatever band is playing in La Scena. Last night we spent about 6 hours there watching a band named Showtime – they were fabulous. Speaking of the Casino, I’ve only played with the slot machines. First I tried the little arm slots which I wasn’t too impressed with, then I tried blackjack, and then the arm lever things again. Black jack was fun, I just found it kind of odd how often the dealer had the best hand – seemed like I never had a chance. Maybe tonight I will try playing real blackjack, with a real dealer. I’m down $30 – not too bad. I won it all back yesterday on the slots, but then I got greedy and lost it all.

OK, enough of my babbling – I’ll try posting again tomorrow…
